The Kurokawa Clan (くろかわ一族, Kurokawa Ichizoku) was a powerful clan from the Land of Fire descending directly from Indra Otsutsuki. It’s last survivor is Yoruhi Uchiha, after she accidentally unleashed fire on the clan.
Background[]
Founding[]
The Kurokawa Clan, like the Uchiha, is descended from Indra Ōtsutsuki. Originally a single unified clan, some members sought to preserve their Ōtsutsuki traditions and noble heritage, leading to the formation of two clans: the Uchiha and the Kurokawa. The Kurokawa retained Indra's Sharingan and chakra while remaining deeply connected to their ancestral origins. Unlike the Uchiha, they passed down the story of Kaguya Ōtsutsuki through generations, believing her return to Earth was inevitable. Their mission became clear: prevent her resurrection at all costs.
To fulfill this goal, they developed their unique Kekkei Genkai, the Dream Release, which allowed them to influence and manipulate the dreams of others. Their prophecy foretold the birth of a child who would one day put Kaguya into an eternal slumber and guide her back to the path of peace through a secret dōjutsu.
Warring States Period[]
For generations, the Kurokawa lived in isolation in the Land of Fire, interacting with only a few select clans to preserve their strength and purity. While their relationship with the Uchiha was initially amicable, tensions rose during the Warring States Period. The Uchiha sought the Kurokawa’s aid in their conflicts, but the Kurokawa refused, valuing their independence above all.
The refusal led to hostility between the clans, which persisted until the Senju and Uchiha made peace and founded Konohagakure. The Kurokawa, seeing themselves as superior to other ninja and unwilling to associate with Asura’s descendants, chose not to join the village. However, due to their formidable power, Konoha formed an alliance with the Kurokawa, allowing them to live independently on the outskirts of the village as long as they did not pose a threat.
Life in the Land of Fire[]
After the Warring States Period, the Kurokawa focused on fulfilling their prophecy. They conducted experiments on their own clan members, trying to manifest the legendary secret dōjutsu. Though they largely avoided wars, they were drawn into conflict when other villages invaded their territory, seeking the clan’s secrets.
During the Third Shinobi World War, the Kurokawa allied briefly with Orochimaru, who provided them with knowledge to enhance their genetics and create the "perfect child" of prophecy. However, their alliance ended when they discovered Orochimaru’s true intention: to take over the body of a Kurokawa member in his quest for immortality.
Amid this turmoil, Akira Kurokawa, whose child’s father was unknown, gave birth to Yoruhi Kurokawa, a baby with extraordinary chakra reserves. Believing Yoruhi to be the prophesied child, the clan subjected her to rigorous tests and training. Despite her young age, they attempted to awaken the Rinnegan prematurely, bypassing the Sharingan’s natural progression. These efforts failed, as Yoruhi was too young to control chakra or absorb Asura’s energy. Instead, they focused on her ability to mold chakra, eventually enabling her to manipulate Yin and Yang releases by age four.
Kurokawa Downfall[]
Konoha’s Anbu, led by Danzo Shimura, became aware of Yoruhi’s existence and feared the Kurokawa might use her as a weapon against the village or ally with a foreign nation. To eliminate the clan discreetly, the Anbu planted false evidence of traitors within the Kurokawa, spreading the information through civilians.
The clan, paranoid and divided, concluded that Yoruhi’s mother was the traitor, as she opposed using her daughter to serve the clan’s ambitions. She was executed before Yoruhi’s eyes, triggering an uncontrollable surge of chakra in the child. In her grief and rage, Yoruhi unleashed a devastating inferno that obliterated the entire clan. Only Yoruhi survived, awakening her Sharingan in the aftermath.
Post-Downfall[]
Years later, while researching the Infinite Tsukuyomi, Yoruhi discovered records of the Kurokawa in an Uchiha hideout. This triggered suppressed memories, leading her to interrogate Zetsu. Using a genjutsu, she uncovered the truth about her clan’s history and her role in its destruction. Overwhelmed by this realization, Yoruhi unlocked new abilities. She fought Zetsu, and after a fierce battle, seemingly killed him, awakening the Eiengan—a dōjutsu born from the murder of an Ōtsutsuki.
The Fourth Shinobi World War[]
During the Fourth Shinobi World War, Yoruhi fought alongside Obito and Madara, supporting the activation of the Infinite Tsukuyomi, but later change her mind. In her battle against Madara, now the Ten-Tails’ jinchūriki, Yoruhi used techniques from her clan to manipulate his thoughts. Furious at Madara for taking Kakashi’s eye, she accidentally activated the Eternal Dream, plunging the Allied Shinobi Forces into an slumner, allowing Madara’s Tsukuyomi to succeed.
Realizing her mistake, Yoruhi entered Sasuke’s dream to awaken him. On his deathbed, Madara revealed the full Kurokawa prophecy, prompting Yoruhi to aid Naruto and Sasuke in sealing Kaguya. During their final battle, Yoruhi traversed her comrades’ dreams to bring them back to reality, allowing the battle to end swiftly. Alongside Sasuke and Naruto, she received Hagoromo’s chakra, and her Eiengan became crucial in sealing Kaguya. She avenged Obito by killing Black Zetsu for good.
Now wielding a supremely powerful Eiengan, Yoruhi used the Judo Tensei technique to resurrect Itachi Uchiha.
Abilities[]
The Kurokawa Clan's abilities are rooted in their descent from Indra Ōtsutsuki, granting them the Sharingan and a strong affinity for Yin Release. Much like the Uchiha, their Sharingan allows them to cast powerful genjutsu, perceive chakra flow, and read an opponent’s movements with precision. However, their connection to their Ōtsutsuki heritage makes their chakra more potent, allowing for longer, more devastating use of the Sharingan.
The clan’s unique Kekkei Genkai, the Dream Release, is a rare ability that allows them to manipulate the dreams of others, making them masters of psychological warfare. Through this ability, they could extract information, plant suggestions, or trap enemies in dreamscapes that felt indistinguishably real. This ability played a significant role in their efforts to fulfill their prophecy of preventing Kaguya’s return by influencing her mind. The Kurokawa trained extensively to refine their mastery of this Kekkei Genkai, with Yoruhi being pushed into rigorous training from a young age.
The pinnacle of the Kurokawa’s power is the Eiengan, a legendary evolution of the Sharingan that far surpasses the Mangekyō Sharingan. The Eiengan manifests under extreme emotional and physical duress, unlocking unparalleled control over Muton and granting the user the ability to . Yoruhi awakened the Eiengan killing Zetsu, or at least some part of it. It suggests that the killing of an Ōtsutsuki develop the Eiengan. This new dojutsu enabled her to Later, she utilized its power to delve into Sasuke’s dreams and wake him, demonstrating the eye’s potential to manipulate consciousness on an unprecedented scale. The Eiengan became a critical tool in sealing Kaguya, as its mastery of dream and mental manipulation was key to fulfilling the clan's prophecy and ensuring her defeat.
