NOTE: I'm undergoing what could be somewhat big changes for Kiyomi's character to make her less Sue-ish, so criticism and feedback (CONSTRUCTIVE) is highly appreciated, and bear with me! If there are inconsistencies, this is why.

Kiyomi Hyūga (日向 清見, Hyūga Kiyomi, née Yuki (雪)), is a kunoichi from Konohagakure’s Team 4 and is a descendant of the Yuki clan. She is the older sister of Mizuko Yuki and the twin sister of Raiden Yuki. Inspired by Sakura’s desire to be more useful, she trains under her squad leader, Kaori Senju, and also her mother, Mizu Yuki, to get better control over her chakra and to learn medical ninjutsu and to become stronger. She later becomes widely known for her beauty and skill which earned her one moniker "Konoha's Ice Angel" (木の葉の氷天使, Konoha no Kōri Tenshi, Literally Meaning: The Hidden Tree Leaves' Ice Angel). She marries Kaito Hyūga two years after the war, having two children with him.

Background

Kiyomi was born and raised in a small snowy village in the Land of Water. Kiyomi grew up with her twin brother, Raiden, and her mother, Mizu. She grew up in an area that was still suffering from war. During this war, two different sides battled each other with ninja, and some possessed kekkei genkai. After this war, many terrifying images and memories were stuck in the minds of many people. Those who possessed kekkei genkai were quickly becoming feared out of concern that their existence would bring out more suffering and war.

Kiyomi's parents were both shinobi, though they were forced to go into hiding to escape persecution and death. Due to this, both Reiki and Mizu were inactive for a long time until Reiki decided to go and travel around part of the world. Though, while traveling around the world, he was killed. This was something that Mizu could not bring herself to tell her kids, nor could she believe it. She eventually tells them, however, they were filled with grief and sadness, Kiyomi even cried quite a bit. Now without a father, who did not tell Kiyomi nor Raiden about the Ice Release before his death, Kiyomi was left without knowing about her abilities. She did know, however, that she was going to get a younger sister soon. Kiyomi did eventually discover this ability two years before she was supposed to be enrolled in the academy, at the tender age of five, by being scared by her brother sneaking up on her, which triggered her to create several small ice spikes to which Raiden created a weak ice dome to protect himself. This caused a watching Mizu to express shock and fear. She then rushed both of them inside and quickly explained to them what happened and what was going on. Raiden, then scared, asked if they could move away. Mizu agreed and, soon, Kiyomi moved to Konohagakure. Kiyomi and Raiden also knew very well about their two cousins, Aiko and Haku, and cared for them, though they did not live in the same village.

When Kiyomi did live in the Leaf Village, she started the academy at age seven and was bullied for being from another land, and for being rather short. Rather quickly though, Kiyomi's bullies left her alone, due to the fact that she lashed out at them and they started to slightly fear her. Eventually, Kiyomi met and befriended Sakura Haruno. Though in her house, there was trouble brewing as Aiko had moved months after Kiyomi did, yet Haku was still nowhere to be seen. Then Aiko revealed the truth about Haku’s true whereabouts and that he left with one of the Seven Ninja Swordsman of the Mist. This devastated Kiyomi, as not only was she terrified by the power of the Swordsman, she truly thought that she could trust Haku. This caused Kiyomi to want to forget about Haku altogether, but she could never truly get away from her past and constantly worried about Haku and his fate.

Back at the academy, Sasuke Uchiha’s popularity among girls was rapidly increasing. When her closest friend, Sakura, fell for him, and with the rumor going around that Sasuke liked girls with long hair, she cut her hair down with help from her mother so that it no longer fell to her mid-back but was chin length. This started her dislike for Sasuke at the beginning of the series as she did not like him breaking ties between girls, though it was not his fault.

At some point in time, Sakura approached her and asked her if she had feelings for the Uchiha, to which Kiyomi angrily declined and she argued with Sakura about her feelings. Kiyomi then harshly told Sakura that she was physically weak, stemming from her terrible temper, and cut off their friendship right there despite Sakura not actually doing anything wrong. She later stated that she was offended Sakura thought she would betray their friendship by liking Sasuke.

This started their dislike for each other and, because of her height, Kiyomi earned herself a prominent nickname of "Runt", (ちび Chibi), which many other girls, including Ino, started to call her as well as the boys

who she made of, Raiden being a prime example.

Also, at some point Kiba approached Kiyomi and made fun of her for her height, to which she retorted and made fun of the male gender, this also ended up being a constant thing. This irritated Raiden, and he hissed at her comeback. Kiyomi was then not on good terms with her brother, in fact, they frequently argued with each other and made fun of each other. Little did Kiyomi know that Raiden was really just torn between his friends and family. They frequently said that the other would be a burden to their future team.

She then went to befriend Nozomi Haruno. Kiyomi graduated from the academy with high grades.

Personality

Kiyomi is a blunt, prudent and stoic kunoichi, though she became more impulsive and reckless in Part II. Kiyomi was never afraid to speak her mind, such as telling Itsuki Yamanaka if he ever wanted to get a girlfriend he would have to be much less annoying. Kiyomi is also a sharp-tongued girl who is rather audacious and sarcastic. Overall, she has been noted to have a slight masculine attitude, which is further shown by her speech, behavior, and way of dressing. She did, however, noticeably soften during Part II and showed a more light-hearted aspect of her personality as she cracked many more jokes, teased her friends and family more, and became more shy and flustered around Kaito. At the same time, Kiyomi became more sarcastic and, like Aiko, Itsuki, Kaito, and Raiden became more foul-mouthed with a playful and streak.

She always disliked four of her male classmates in the academy who were Kiba Inuzuka, Sasuke Uchiha, Raiden, and Itsuki. Despite this, Kiyomi did show respect to her other male classmates and only disliked those four. When an academy student, she disliked many girls in her year since they loved Sasuke and were more interested in boys than actually being shinobi and Kiyomi found that annoying. She was rather happy when they didn’t graduate since they were ill-prepared for the duties of a shinobi. Sakura and Ino were the only exceptions since those two were the only girls who did not bully her.

Because of what happened in the academy, Kiyomi and Raiden had poor relationships with each other. When in the academy, Raiden often scolded her for being "unladylike" in speech and behavior. They often called one another burdens to their future teams and mocked each other greatly. However, after Haku's premature death, Kiyomi and Raiden grew to love and care for each other deeply. Despite the fact that they tease and mock each other playfully, Kiyomi and Raiden would risk their lives for one another.

Kiyomi has never told anyone it was because of Ino and Naruto that she became bolder and more courageous and she adored the two greatly. Her mother was shocked at how smart-mouthed, out-spoken, and bold she was. Raiden only came to dislike his sister because of this attitude and him, Kiba, and Itsuki always rivaled Kiyomi, Sakura, and Ino but he ended up becoming close to his sister later on and they both truly care for each other. She was also noted to be friendly and kind to people she cares for. She also has a soft side and uses proper honorifics in the right situations. Kiyomi also cares deeply for her comrades and loved ones, caring more about their well-being than her own at times. Kiyomi is also a tomboy and she is rather tough. Jiraiya noted that he was reminded of Kushina Uzumaki when she was younger when he looks at Kiyomi.

Kiyomi is rather quick-tempered and can be harsh if she is angered enough, such as telling Sakura she was physically weak and needed to become stronger at a rather young age in the academy. This shows Kiyomi's temper and mouth can cause her to say things she would not mean at all. She showed regret and guilt for what she did to Sakura and apologized during the Chūnin Selection Exams. Though she isn't particularly violent, she can resort to violence if someone angers her enough or does something she finds wrong and has a very intimidating demeanor when angry, which has gotten her very feared. In fact, many of her male friends are scared of her due to her temper and have described her as scary when she's angry.

Through Kaori's influence, Kiyomi gained much higher will power and she will gladly lay her life down for those she cares for. According to Kaida, Kiyomi is a kunoichi with "nerve". Kiyomi also highly cherishes and trusts those she sees as comrades and allies to the point where she will place herself at risk to protect those comrades. She does, however, understand the rules of being a medical-nin and, though she does follow them and finds them logical, she dislikes them due to the fact that she thinks it makes her useless in battle, as she is not allowed to be on the front-lines in battle. Despite this, Kiyomi does usually follow the rules, though on the few occasions she does not, it shows who or what she's fighting for means more to her than her own life. Kiyomi also deeply values peace, something Raiden says stems from her friendship with Gaara and Temari. Despite her hotheaded personality, Kiyomi is calm and rational in battle. She also has high self-control. After her training with Mizu, Kiyomi became overprotective of her friends, family, and teammates. She deeply cares about her loved ones and she risked her life on several occasions for them. Kiyomi also hugged her brother, Kaito, and Itsuki more often, and sometimes even kissed their foreheads and cheeks as a symbol she cares for them greatly. Though due to her feelings for him, she would always blush deeply whenever she hugged Kaito and didn't kiss his forehead or cheek as much as she did with Raiden out of her shyness and embarrassment.

Kiyomi also has a sense of honor as she was unwilling to surrender to Itsuki during the Chūnin Exams due to the fact that she did not want to the work Aiko and Mizu did to train her to go down in vain. However, one more than one occasion, Kiyomi showed that she was unwilling to hurt those who she deeply cares for. This was shown when she did not want to fight Itsuki during the Chūnin Exams and the other being that she refused to fight back against her reanimated father during the Fourth Shinobi World War, this decision nearly costing Kiyomi her life.

She can be merciless against those who injure her comrades and cares for her loved ones deeply to the point where she would use her own body as a shield to protect them. She also gets along very well with the jōnins of Konoha and even has a father-daughter bond with Genma Shiranui, whom her sensei is married to. She was noted to be cheerful and showed immaturity and friendliness as a child.

On the other hand of her tough and blunt demeanor, Kiyomi seems to be insecure about gaining recognition and attention. She seemed to be jealous of Sakura's abilities as a medical ninja. She also seemed to think that Mizu cared for her little sister more than she cared for the former. She also seemed to think Mizuko was her mother's favorite. She was also desperate for praise. Because of her desperation for praise, Kiyomi would blush whenever someone acknowledged her abilities.

She has stated that despite what people will think, her self-esteem is noticeably low. At the beginning of Part I, she was shown to be rather confident in herself but, after Haku died in front of her, she became more uneasy. At the beginning of Part II, the main difference in Kiyomi's personality was that she was more soft and sensitive, and her desperation for attention and low esteem were also pretty clear. She was highly self-conscious about her abilities. She also had emotional insecurities and trust issues after she heard about what happened to Haku. Kiyomi put extra stress and pressure on herself because of family matters. Because of all this, Kiyomi, alongside Raiden, was shown to be in a depressed state several times during Part II. It was also revealed that she developed post-traumatic stress disorder from watching Haku's death, suffering many nightmares of his death which would leave her terrified.

Before this, Kiyomi doubted her abilities and wanted to become better, stronger, and smarter and she wanted to protect all her friends from Konoha and Suna. For this, she dedicated almost three full years of training under Kaori for medical ninjutsu and Mizu for intelligence and mental training. Finally, Kiyomi becomes more comfortable expressing her feelings and is more impulsive and blunt after the beginning of Part II. She becomes willing to express her thoughts and she has also become more sensitive and emotional. Despite the emotional training she received, however, Kiyomi's self-esteem was still rather low and she more desperate for attention than people would think. She became very protective of her teammates and other friends in Konoha, as well as the Three Sand Siblings, and swore to herself that she would never lose her friends or anyone she loved again after Haku died. Kiyomi, during Part II, openly admitted that she had anxiety.

As Part II continued, Kiyomi's insecurities became more clear and noticeable. Her desperation for acknowledgment and lack of attention made its way to her squad, to which Kaori reassured her that she was strong enough to become a better kunoichi than her. She later becomes exposed to the realities of the world and realized that war was likely to break out soon. She became slightly disappointed in herself for focusing more on her insecurities as opposed to focusing on her duties as a shinobi, which she quickly got over. During the war, she was shown to have similar thoughts and feelings again by stating that Sakura was doing more than self-pity, but was trying to help save the world and became one of the greatest medical-nin in the world. Kiyomi got her act together and ended up becoming more in touch with her feelings than ever.

Kiyomi has been in love with Kaito ever since she graduated from the academy, and wanted to see him safe and happy above all else. Kiyomi's infatuation with Kaito made it hard for her to concentrate on her duties as a shinobi and often got in the way of missions as she would drop the task at hand and rush to help him. Kiyomi hoped more than anything else that Kaito would love her back, and, during the war, her only desire was to be in his arms, showered in his love. Her dreams of being in a stable, healthy, and loving relationship with Kaito soon became reality and Kiyomi married him after the war and had two children with him, Saki and Hibiki. As his wife, Kiyomi usually calls Kaito "darling" (アナタ, anata). Kiyomi, while usually assertive, aggressive, and tough, is the opposite around Kaito. Especially during the few times he shows her affection, Kiyomi always blushes whilst becoming flustered and shy. This shows the major soft-spot she has for him. Many people have stated that Kiyomi's strong feelings for Kaito were always obvious as she would become shy around him during Part II (as she had softened more and lost some of her masculine attitudes) and Kiyomi is someone who would usually keep her cool. However, during the climax of Part II, due to her thinking that Kaito did not like her at all because he became much colder, Kiyomi began to become more flirtatious towards other boys in the village who she deemed handsome. Despite this, Kiyomi regained her original feelings (during the war) for Kaito after talking to Aiko about it, as the latter convinced her to stay true to her heart.

As a mother, Kiyomi is shown to be overall relatively the same and appreciates the idea of beauty through development. Kiyomi is the type of person who deeply loves her children and husband, and is willing to do much for them. She also can be very intimidating, when she's angry, and her son fears her for her temper, for he has a knack for trouble and saying things to provoke her. Though her intimidating side is mostly shown around her son, Kiyomi has been shown sacring her daughter with her terrible temper. The most notable occasion being when Saki griped about taking the Chūnin Selection Exams, saying she was too weak for it, Amarante handed her a letter (Amarante was told to give Saki the letter if she complained) which instantly changed her daughter's mind, though the contents of the letter were never revealed. At the same time, Kiyomi is not without a carefree and playful side, as she jokingly asked Kaito when she was going to get pregnant with their third child, to which he blushed but chuckled.

Appearance

Kiyomi has fair skin, blue eyes (which are further accented with long eyelashes), and straight dark brown hair, which when in light, has a copper-colored shine to it and her front hair bangs went diagonally straight across her forehead. Her hair was chin length when she was a child, then it went down to her shoulder blades in Part I, then to her mid-back in Part II. During Part I, her hair tucked behind her ear but eventually grew down to collarbone-length bangs. As she gets older, like Sakura, Hinata, and Ino, Kiyomi is noted to become very attractive and beautiful by Kaito and her friends.

By adulthood, Kiyomi has gained noticeably sharper eyes and facial features. While she was noted to be shorter than average as a child, Kiyomi eventually grew to be average height and around Part II, gained a more slender build. In Part I, she wears a high-collared blue top, with black bike shorts and has a shuriken holster around her right thigh. She also wears black, fingerless arm-warmers which have metal plates on them. She wears the Konohagakure forehead protector around her forehead and the standard shinobi sandals, both of which were the color blue. In Part II, Kiyomi sports a high-collared top, which reveals her stomach and navel and black shorts. Accompanying these are a medical pouch, as well as a tantō strapped to her lower back. The cloth of her forehead protector changes to black. She dons black, high-heeled shinobi sandals and she also wears black gloves as well as black thigh-high stockings. Close to the beginning of the Fourth Shinobi World War, Kiyomi gains Strength of a Hundred Seal in the form of a purple diamond on her forehead, which is sometimes covered by her bangs in adulthood. During the Fourth Shinobi World War, she wears the standard Konoha infantry flak jacket and the assorted clothing. Kiyomi also dons the Allied Shinobi Forces forehead protector around her forehead. She temporarily sports dark blue nail polish on her fingernails and toenails.

During Naruto and Hinata's wedding, Kiyomi wears a dark green, high collared, sleeveless qipao dress that goes down to her ankles with thigh-high slits on both sides and gold-colored trimmings and high-heeled sandals. For her own wedding with Kaito, Kiyomi sports a white wedding dress. She also wore white high-heels and sported soft lipstick as well as dangling earrings and a tiara-like headpiece.

After rising to the ranks of jōnin and during The Last: Naruto the Movie, Kiyomi's attire consists of a dark blue sleeveless, high-collared qipao dress, which has a zipper and went down to her mid thigh and also reveals her back and arms. She also wears black shorts and she began to stop wearing her forehead protector at all. She also donned similar sandals to the ones she wore in Part II and sports black gloves. She also cut her hair down to a straight, shoulder-length bob. In adulthood, Kiyomi wears a dark blue, high-collared, sleeveless dress with thigh-high slits on both sides and high-heeled sandals. She also sports a light-lavender colored belt-like choker around her neck over her black dress collar. Her front hair bangs also now part to the left and slightly cover her left eye. When on duty, she dons the Konoha uniform. She also noticeably gained more of a slender figure. During the time after The Last, but before the start of Boruto, Kiyomi sported light pink lipstick.

During her free time in both parts, Kiyomi wears a short-sleeved, royal blue hooded top, which reveals her stomach and navel, and black shorts. As a child, Kiyomi sported a dark blue, long-sleeved hooded jacket and a black skirt. While working long hours at the hospital, Kiyomi sports a long-sleeved, white doctor's coat which falls down to the top of her thighs and a red armband that has Konoha's medical-nin symbol on her right arm during both Part II and adulthood.

Abilities

As a descendant of the Yuki clan and apprentice and student of a Senju, Kiyomi is a very powerful and skilled kunoichi. After undergoing intense training she adds more variety to her fighting style and becomes much more powerful. She is also widely known for her chakra control and skill in medical ninjutsu. Another thing she is famous for is her skill in being a bodyguard. In months, after becoming a chūnin, Kiyomi's skill in being a top-notch, elite, personal bodyguard and escort was very high. Two years after the war, Kiyomi rises to the ranks of jōnin. Her main weakness in battle is her noticeably high lack of skill in genjutsu, too many hand seals can also hurt her, and she also has a low pain tolerance.

Physical Prowess and Chakra Control

Trained under Kaori, as well as having natural a talent for it, Kiyomi gained much higher acrobatic prowess and higher agility. Kiyomi gained a higher reaction speed as well. She also obtained better evasive skills. Kiyomi also is naturally very strong, having much better physical strength than average. By adulthood, this physical strength could rival that of an advanced user of Chakra Enhanced Strength

Another one of Kiyomi’s strong points is her speed. Her sheer speed alone made her hard for Haku to defeat. She is also very agile and has good reflexes. Kiyomi's speed increases whenever she uses her Demonic Mirroring Ice Crystals. She attacks very quickly and without a kekkei genkai like the Sharingan of the Uchiha clan, it becomes basically impossible to see and keep track of her movements. She can travel between her mirrors and make it look like she is in all of them when she is really just traveling between them. This speed was her most defining skill in Part I and Kiyomi herself admitted that she heavily relied on her speed.

Kiyomi was naturally talented with her chakra control and was able to perform a jutsu without wasting too much chakra. This skill in it might have also come from Kaori training her squad up in this. After all the training Kiyomi went through under Kaori and Mizu's tutelage, her chakra control increased amazingly, and she turned it into a vital part of her battle strategy. This ended up becoming the first thing Kiyomi taught Saki after she became a genin. Kiyomi has stated multiple times that chakra control is one of the most important skills in a ninja, saying that she would be nowhere if she did not master proper chakra control and that it is not only vital in medical ninjutsu but in many types of jutsu in general.

Ninjutsu

Kiyomi can use WaterWindYin, and Yang Release.

Nature Transformation

Kiyomi’s main weapon in battle is her utilization of wind and water natured chakra to create the Ice Release, which she is very proficient in doing. Not only could she fight with wind and water style ninjutsu but she could also use Ice Release techniques such as Demonic Mirroring Ice Crystals. Kiyomi can surround her target and attack them even they are in the sky. Kiyomi can also create large spikes made of ice. For defensive purposes, Kiyomi can create a dome of ice which can handle several explosive tags at once. She is just as skilled in using her two chakra natures separately as she is using them together.

Medical Ninjutsu

When Kiyomi went to Kaori, her main and only goal was to learn medical ninjutsu to ensure that no one she loved would die again. The advanced medical ninjutsu that Kiyomi and Sakura were taught required incredible chakra control. This amount of skill and proficiency in healing to be found in such young kunoichi or anyone, in general, was exceptionally rare. Though not as skilled as Sakura, she came rather close and was a near expert in self-restoration and weapon coating. She is also very skilled in healing others and played a major part in the Fourth Shinobi World War as she played a major part in healing most of the wounded when Sakura and her other medical superiors could not.

During her mission to stop Team Mikan, Kiyomi poured her chakra into Aiko for three whole days to prevent her from dying. Though she is not as good as Sakura, Kiyomi still as high skill in medical ninjutsu and is regarded as one of the greatest medical-nin in the entire world, much like her idol, not too far behind Sakura. She can also cure those who have been poisoned by extracting the poison from their bodies, while simultaneously healing the casualty. Kiyomi can also create poisons difficult for others to counter; though people who know much about poisons can easily create antidotes. This is something she went to Ino for, as she did not learn about it when she was trained under Kaori. Despite the help she was given, it’s still her weak point in medical ninjutsu, and she can still be bested by a poison. However, Kiyomi is extremely skilled in making antidotes and can analyze and decipher even the most complex poisons to make an effective antidote, with standard medicinal herbs barely requiring actual medical tools. Though her abilities to create poisons are very low, especially for a medical ninja. In fact, all of the poisons that Kiyomi carries are made by Aiko.

Taijutsu

Kiyomi was shown to have some noteworthy skill in taijutsu. Though by Kaori it was deemed about above average prowess, it wasn't anything too special. The main cause of this probably comes from one of two sources, or maybe both, Kiyomi's monster strength and her insane speed. These two factors are clearly the main things that Kiyomi's taijutsu so noteworthy. According to Mizu, however, Kiyomi's taijutsu would be plain average if it wasn't for her strength and speed.

Intelligence

Kiyomi’s keen intellect is one of her main weapons. She can guess her opponent's tactics, find their weak points, and find their attack pattern after a brief glance at the battlefield. She was also shown to have high skill in acupuncture, as she can disable an opponent by hitting them at a precise point on the body with a senbon. Because of this, Kiyomi can cause immediate death or a temporary appearance that looks like such. Kiyomi also knows a lot about herbalism, as she usually collected plants and herbs for her mother, when she was still a genin, for medical purposes and, as a teenager in Part II, could already easily distinguish between them by appearance. Kiyomi also has very keen senses. It was revealed that Kiyomi does not think well under pressure.

Other Skills

Kiyomi has good teamwork and is also shown to be a qualified long, mid, and short ranged fighter, though she specializes more in short-mid range. Kiyomi is also very nimble, quick and evasive, something she inherited from Mizu. Kiyomi can also skillfully, nearly flawlessly, use the Silent Killing. This is she learned from her mother during the time skip between Parts I-II.

Prologue- Land of the Waves

Main Article: Prologue-Land of Waves Arc

After graduating, Kiyomi was first seen sitting the classroom next to Nozomi as the girls talk to each other about anything which comes to mind. Kiyomi growls when she sees Ino and Sakura rushing in the classroom and watches the other girls arguing over Sasuke with a look of distaste. She is then enraged to hear she is with Itsuki but softens and smiles when she learns that she's on a team with Kaito, giggling to herself. When meeting Kaori, Kiyomi sets rules for Itsuki to follow. She is later seen with Nozomi, walking through the village happily discussing their friendship and Kiyomi continuously giggles and talks about her feelings towards Kaito. It is unknown whether Kiyomi's squad was assigned the bell test, however, it has been hinted that they were and they succeeded the first time. After being summoned to the mission reception area, Kiyomi is assigned a C-rank mission with her team. While much of the contents of which were unknown, it is known that they had to go to the Land of Waves for their mission.

The mission itself was successful and, while Kiyomi and Itsuki were arguing about who was stronger, Kaori silencing them caught their attention as she usually let the two argue freely. It was them revealed that Kaori silenced them as she sensed strong chakra. They soon discovered Zabuza Momochi and Haku fighting Team 7. To which Kiyomi expressed great shock at seeing Haku again, and immediately told Itsuki to shut up for asking why they were watching Team 7 fight the two shinobi as she watched anxiously. Though Kiyomi, Itsuki, and Kaito wanted to intervene, Kaori stated that the battle was too hectic and that it was seemingly starting to come to an end. She then, again, showed great surprise at seeing Haku give his life up for Zabuza. Though she pleaded with Kaori to save Haku she only shook her head and stated that, again the battle was too hectic and that death comes with being a shinobi, to which Kiyomi started to cry. While Itsuki was at first surprised at her reaction, he soon realized that Kiyomi and Haku had some relation and felt bad for her. She then decided to tell her clansmen about what happened, and, once again, began to cry.

Chūnin Exams

Main Article: Chūnin Exams

To take her mind off of Haku's death and end her depression, Kaori decided to enter Kiyomi and her team into the Chūnin Selection Exams. Though this might have been Kaori's main reason to enroll her team into the Exams, the strength, and skill of her students was certainly enough to prove them worthy of taking the Exams. Shortly before the start of the exams, Kiyomi starts to talk to Nozomi and they discuss the exams. For the first portion of the exams, they are given a written exam with too high of a difficulty level for the average genin to answer. To pass, Kiyomi tried her best to answer all the questions and managed to answer three of them. Kaito then used his Byakugan to copy her answers and Itsuki used his Mind Body Switch Technique to copy Kaito's answers, showing their great teamwork.

For the second stage of the exams, Team 4 enters the Forest of Death to take part in a 5-day survival exercise. Kiyomi, Kaito, and Itsuki think with a similar mindset to that of Team 10, and try to avoid conflict to not tire themselves out and save their energy for when they really need it. Despite this, however, Team 4 was still forced to fight with another team from Sunagakure to get another scroll. Due to their teamwork, something the opposing team lacked, Team 4 managed to defeat them and get a second scroll, thus passing the second stage.

The remaining genin take part in one-on-one combat for the preliminary matches. For her match, Kiyomi is pitted against her brother, Raiden. Raiden used Wind Release jutsu against Kiyomi, and she used taijutsu to fight back. She then used her Ice Release to try and defeat her brother, but he managed to dodge some of her attacks due to his great speeds and naturally high reaction speeds. Seeing the battle wasn't getting anywhere, Kiyomi considered using senbon to hit certain pressure points on Raiden's body to disable him, which she set her mind on doing. Kiyomi eventually managed to come up with another strategy to get Raiden to lower his guard; she purposefully did badly against him at first to get him to lower his guard, but then unleashed her original strategy to of rendering Raiden unconscious with senbon, which worked, allowing Kiyomi to win. She passed out right after she was declared the winner of the match. Her plan barely succeeded and she was left in a worse condition than before in the process of playing out her plan. In fact, both of her ankles had severe damage done to them to the point where both of her teammates had to put her arms around their necks to keep her up after she woke up.  After Raiden woke up, Kiyomi released herself from Itsuki and Kaito's grip and hugged him tightly and told him that she was the winner of the match with a smirk on her face. This did irritate Raiden, but he hugged his sister back nonetheless, happy that she had finally smiled after Haku's death.  Kiyomi is later scheduled to fight Itsuki.

She was once seen with Mizu practicing the Cliff Climbing Technique and being trained. At another point, with Aiko, Kiyomi practiced her marksmanship with moving targets with archery as an overwatching Mizu smiled at them.

When the finalists gather, Kiyomi watches several battles until her own. When it's time for her fight, Kiyomi quickly goes to the arena and prepares to fight Itsuki. Though at first, when first seeing the match-ups, she was happy to realize she could fight Itsuki (so she could prove that she was "stronger") she became unenthusiastic about the match due to the fact that she did not want to fight one of her close friends. Though she mentally considered surrendering, Kiyomi began to dislike that idea due to the fact that both Mizu and Aiko have helped her train tirelessly for this moment, and she did not want it to go down in vain. However, Kiyomi wanted to purposefully lose to him because she did not want the battle to drag on for too long.

As the battle began, Kiyomi, after seeing Temari's battle with Shikamaru, thought about using strategy instead of strength to beat her teammate, but soon found that she could not think of a proper strategy due to the fact that Itsuki was throwing much Fire and Wind Release jutsu at her and preparing to trap her under genjutsu. It was then that Kiyomi realized she was leaving herself open for him to attack her, but she thought she could use her speed to dodge all his attacks safely. She then tried her best to use Water Release jutsu to put out Itsuki's Fire Release. Kiyomi also then tried to dodge his attacks, but still could not figure out a strategy to defeat Itsuki. Soon, Kiyomi used her previous strategy of purposefully performing poorly in battle and get Itsuki to eventually slip and reveal a weak spot. Though her plan was going the right way, Itsuki managed to throw it back at her. He then used his Crystal Release to quickly trap her, but, before that, Kiyomi used her speed to escape the crystal's reach. However, Itsuki quickly put her under a genjutsu and got Kiyomi to leave herself open for attack. Due to this, Kiyomi lost to Itsuki and the latter was the winner of the battle. This made Kiyomi seriously wonder if she relied too much on her speed to get out of tough situations in battle.

As Kiyomi went to the audience to sit with her mother, she passed Nozomi who asked her why she did poorly against Itsuki. Kiyomi responded by saying her mind was too occupied to focus correctly and relied on her speed too much to which Kiyomi stated she wanted to become stronger and add more variety to her jutsu to make sure that would not happen in a serious situation. Kiyomi also went to apologize to Sakura for saying what she did years back in the academy, to which the latter smiled and forgave her.

Sasuke Recovery Mission

Kiyomi was seen with her squad, as Itsuki teased her for loosing to him to which she threatened the latter, causing him to smirk. After the failed attempt to stop Sasuke from defecting from Konoha, she was later seen with Aiko, relieved to hear that her friends were safe. Then, Kiyomi asked to be trained in medical ninjutsu and chakra control under Kaori. Kaori did state that she could certainly help and started to train Kiyomi, giving her work to do every day and night and even pushed her to train every mission and asked Mizu to help train her so she could get better faster. Kiyomi noted several times that it was very hard to keep up with the lessons and both women were very strict, allowing little to no room for failure. Mizu was later shown asking Kiyomi why she was interested in learning medical ninjutsu and getting better chakra control. Kiyomi smiled and stated that she not only wanted to protect her friends and lower their chances of death, she also wanted to become stronger and add variety to her fighting style. She also then asked her mother if she could teach the former and her brother how to use the Silent Killing. Mizu smiled and nodded and her daughter, proud of her development.

In Naruto's Footsteps: The Friends' Paths

Main Article: In Naruto's Footsteps: The Friends' Paths

In the anime, about two years after Naruto leaves to train, another chūnin exam is held. Kiyomi enters with her squad. During the first exam, Kiyomi, Itsuki, and Kaito are seated in different rooms and are tasked with the objective of getting a combined score of exactly 100 points on their written exam despite the separation. Itsuki does the same thing that Team 10 did: he contacted his teammates telepathically and assigned them the questions to answer. Then, they are given a bonus question: each team must unanimously select a teammate to disqualify. Team 4 chose no one and that was the correct answer. This qualified them to the next phase.

Those who passed the first exam are tasked with a new objective: reach the Demon Dessert within three days in order to participate in the second exam. Kaito, Kiyomi, and Itsuki successfully do so and are given the same exam they were several years ago: obtain a scroll from another team.

Team 4 is eventually found by one of the proctors, who brings them back to where all the other genin are being assembled. They were then told that the Chūnin Selection Exams have been canceled; reports on the participants' performances will be sent back to their villages and their promotion is left to their superiors. When they get back to Konoha, Lady Tsunade promotes Kiyomi and her friends to chūnin.

Kazekage Rescue Mission

Main Article: Kazekage Rescue Mission

Kiyomi and her team are shown to be some of the first few people to go and greet Naruto. Team 4 runs into Naruto as they come back from a mission but Kiyomi, Kaito, and Itsuki all laugh as Naruto gets into competition with Konohamaru Sarutobi on Sexy Techniques. She then talks to her team about their old friend, happy he's back and then leaves with her team, noting to inform Aiko of Naruto's return to Konohagakure.

Kiyomi is later seen with Aiko going to greet Naruto but ran into Sai attacking Naruto, Choji, and Shikamaru instead. She then talks to Ino after she arrives and then leaves with her cousin. When Team 7 returns from their failed attempt to retrieve Sasuke, Kiyomi and Aiko agree to go with Ino and her team to visit them in the hospital. She talks to Sakura and Ino about Sai and they converse lightly about the topic of Sai and Sasuke Uchiha's similarities. Later, the group of friends goes to lunch at Yakiniku Q. In an attempt to make friends with them, Sai gives them nicknames and Kiyomi laughs at Ino's nickname "beautiful", but soon gets her own, "runt". She also chuckled when Aiko was nicknamed "matchmaker".

Kiyomi, Raiden, and Aiko had a cameo during this arc as Naruto compared their Ice Release to Guren's Crystal Release. It was also revealed that Kiyomi was supposed to help with the Four-Corner Sealing Barrier, but was already on a mission with her team and could not.

Fanmade Arc: Shinobi of the Yuki

Main Article: Fanmade Arc: Shinobi of the Yuki

Being sent on a mission to take care of a complaint, of a shinobi group causing trouble and kidnapping and killing others, Kiyomi, Raiden, and Aiko head out to help a small village. Having to stop to sleep and rest, Kiyomi and her team stop to sleep. It was then revealed that during Kiyomi's dream, that she was still traumatized by Haku's death. This was shown when she had a nightmare about the impaled Haku telling her she was weak and that Sakura would always be stronger than her: that she was too weak to prevent his death before shouting her name angrily. Kiyomi soon shot out of sleep to a shocked Raiden who asked her if she was alright. Kiyomi nodded but stated that she didn't like the feel of the wind, and knew something bad was going to happen. The next day, they soon run into Mikan,Tsumugi, andKaida. Aiko then engages in combat with Mikan, Kiyomi with Kaida, and Raiden with Tsumugi.

Then, due to Mikan's jutsu, Kiyomi and Raiden, as well as Tsumugi and Kaida, get separated from Aiko and Mikan, as Mikan wanted to have a rematch with Aiko with no interference. This left Kiyomi and Raiden to Kaida and Tsumugi. Though Kiyomi was going to attack Kaida, she watched as Tsumugi stated that she didn't want to kill Raiden, but she'd save him a kiss before that (that being Raiden's death). She hissed and was going to do something, but realized that Raiden could handle himself and that she had a mission to finish. Then, she attacked Kaida with

her monstrous strength and then trapped the latter with her mirrors. Kiyomi, however, was startled by the fact that Kaida had a jutsu that could melt one of her mirrors, and that mirror was the same one that Kiyomi was in, causing her to have major, second-degree burns on her right arm.

Kiyomi, however, managed to gain the upper hand by tiring out Kaida with her intense speeds and large quantities of chakra. This caused the latter to let her guard down long enough to the point were Kiyomi could go to rescue Raiden from death by punching the ground and causing Tsumugi to have to break the jutsu to get herself to safety. This allowed Kiyomi to get to her brother to get him to safety as well.

Kiyomi and Raiden then watched as Tsumugi yelled at Kaida for letting her guard down. The sisters then started to argue This led Kiyomi to reminisce about her own childhood memories with Sakura as she called her weak and said she would be a burden to her future squad while simultaneously wondering if Sakura was Tsunade's favorite. Meanwhile, Raiden thought about how he really felt inside when he agreed to the same things about Kiyomi while he was a kid with Kiba and Itsuki. This led them both to become very uneasy and uncomfortable.

Due to both Kaida and Tsumugi realizing that Kiyomi and Raiden's guards were down, they chose to attack them. This gave them the upper hand and allowed them to do major damage. But, the two kunoichis let themselves get too cocky, which resulted in their death's at Kiyomi and Raiden's hands.

To kill her, Kiyomi had to trick Kaida into thinking that she had killed her, then, with her guard down, Kiyomi moved behind Kaida and tried to attack her, but Kaida managed to dodge Kiyomi's attack, barely. Kiyomi then questioned if Kaida was going to arm herself, to which Kaida stated that, although she didn't have any, she didn't need any weapons to beat Kiyomi. Then Kiyomi threw several kunai out at Kaida, pretending to miss. Then Kaida took the one nearest to her and moved towards Kiyomi to attack her, though the latter let her guard down and was overthrown by a Water Release technique. Then a wind style one to keep her still and, finally, an Ice Release technique to trap her. When Kaida questioned where she went wrong, Kiyomi stated that she purposefully threw the kunai at Kaida's direction to get her to come near her. She then proceeded to kill Kaida by punching her in the chest, causing her to die instantly.

Later she and Raiden finally met up with their older cousin and they started to discuss plans for returning to Konoha and giving themselves as much treatment as their chakra would allow. Though the three had another enemy waiting for them. A group of five shinobi, who had always supported Mikan's beliefs and ideas as well as her sisters', unbeknownst to them. They ruthlessly attacked the three for killing the sisters and each member made hundreds of clones to tire out the trio even more. Though they tried to fight back, they were too tired, and little chakra left, not anticipating the attack on them. The three had quickly reached their limits, Aiko even became poisoned. When Aiko's guard was down, after being poisoned, the leader of the group tried to stab Aiko in a vital spot, to kill her, but both Kiyomi and Raiden jumped in front of the attack, using themselves as shields to protect their cousin. Kiyomi, who was the one in front grabbed onto the sword to make sure the group didn't flee from battle and told Aiko to get back to Konoha, but Aiko refused to leave them there. Then, Kiyomi managed to master her own Strength of a Hundred Seal and releases it so she can heal herself. She then manages to fight back and quickly kills the shinobi who attacked her and her family.

Kiyomi then summons Katsuyu to transfer chakra to her, Raiden, and Aiko, as they were all exhausted and in need of chakra. Kiyomi then transferred chakra to Aiko through physical contact, and the markings spread onto Aiko's body. It was then revealed that during her fight with Mikan, Aiko released her Strength of a Hundred Seal, but the kunoichi did even more damage after that which left Aiko in her current state. She also stated that she focused all her chakra, which she had left, to heal her wounds as opposed to reforming her seal. Later on, Kiyomi released her Strength of a Hundred Seal and summons Katsuyu to transfer chakra to her, Raiden, and Aiko, as they were all exhausted and in need of chakra. Kiyomi then used the medicinal herbs around her to create an antidote for Aiko, demonstrating the skill she had. Without the usage of the proper medical tools a standard medical-nin would need, Kiyomi barely used any tools and, with Raiden's aid and expertise, managed to create the proper antidote in exactly an hour to counter the unknown poison.

It was also revealed that Kiyomi used the Healing Resuscitation Regeneration Technique to help heal Aiko's deeper cuts and gashes quicker, with Raiden, but they Katsuyu to replenish their chakra once more. After Kiyomi uses Katsuyu to talk to Tsunade about what had happened, Katsuyu is relieved of her duties.

Then, Kiyomi and Raiden give themselves some additional treatment and then Kiyomi hugs Aiko and Raiden and tells them that she greatly loves them both as her family. It ends with Aiko, Kiyomi, and Raiden thinking about how far they've come and how they're ready for anything that comes their way, with each other and their friends

In the alternate world, Kiyomi is more timid, soft-spoken, and level-headed. As opposed to her brave, blunt, and tough personality, Kiyomi is now much more rational, calm, soft, and even girly. She is also more conservative in her appearance. She is meek and shy. Unlike the Kiyomi that Naruto and Sakura know, Kiyomi shows some type of disgust when talking about Haku. Kiyomi is shy with boys and isn't as good with them as in the real world. She is like the Ino of this fake world and like Hinata of the actual timeline. She also isn't bossy or pushy with her team, trying to end things harmoniously with them as opposed to lashing out at them like she normally does. Contrary to the original timeline, Kiyomi was raised by Reiki instead of Mizu, who in this world died, the exact opposite of the real world. Reiki was also a Konoha shinobi in this world instead of one from Kiri. The only difference in Kiyomi's appearance is the fact that she wears a light purple eye shadow, which looks like Konan's and her top also covers her stomach and navel and also dons short-sleeves.

Creation and Conception

I (as Kiyomi's creator) have always an issue with changing her design and name on many occasions. One thing, however, that remained the same was Kiyomi's personality. I also had always planned for her to be left without a father from the very beginning. Fun fact, I originally had Kiyomi's name as Rin, then as Hanabi, then I finally settled on Kiyomi, but I did fear that it was too popular. I also always greatly admired Sakura Haruno and, for that reason, I based Kiyomi on her a lot. I also have always kept key parts of Kiyomi's personality. I originally planned for Kiyomi to be a member of Squad 7, but I feared that to be too Sue-ish. Then, I planned for Kiyomi to be a member of Team Ten, but I was scared that would ruin the Ino-Shika-Cho trio thing, so I created Team Four.

Trivia

  • "Kiyomi" literally means "pure beauty" (清見). Aiko sometimes jokes around by saying that though she is pretty, Kiyomi is not as innocent or as clueless about the hardships of the shinobi world as people think she is at first glance. Her family name "Yuki" means snow (雪).
  • Kiyomi works part-time at Yamanaka Flowers to spend more time with Ino.
  • Kiyomi is supposed to be based on Ino Yamanaka, Sakura Haruno, and Temari.
  • Kiyomi's alias, "Konoha's Ice Angel" (木の葉の氷天使, Konoha no Kōri Tenshi, Literally Meaning: The Hidden Tree Leaves' Ice Angel), comes from the fact that she is the female in Konohagakure with the highest skill with the Ice Release kekkei genkai.
  • Kiyomi's relationship with Haku was supposed to be based on Sasuke's with his older brother, Itachi Uchiha. The younger one in the relationship (Kiyomi and Sasuke) have their trust betrayed by the older one in the relationship (Haku and Itachi) for a reason they didn't know until the big brother figure died purposefully before their eyes. The older brother figure also is stronger than the younger sibling figure at first, but the younger one slowly surpasses their older family member. Opposite to Sasuke, however, Kiyomi did not want revenge, she did not hate Haku or even anything to with him, she only wanted to forget about him.
  • Kiyomi scored 13 points on The Mary Sue Test. This makes her a Non-Sue
  • Kaito revealed that Kiyomi is a somewhat picky eater, but a is a very good cook.
  • Kiyomi likes escort missions the least, but is very skilled in being a bodyguard and is very popular for her skill in being an elite bodyguard and escort more any other skills that she has, even in adulthood.
  • Though she is loyal to Kaito, she (as a teenager during Part II) could display a very flirtatious aspect of her personality, causing her to slightly like seduction missions, though she grew out of this during adulthood.
  • Kiyomi is supposed to have a similar voice to Kushina Uzumaki for the English dub of the anime and, as such, shares her dub voice actor with Kushina: Laura Bailey.
  • The sandals Kiyomi wears in Part II add 1 centimeter onto her height.
  • There was originally supposed to be a love-triangle between Kaito, Itsuki, and Kiyomi (Kaito liking Kiyomi, Kiyomi liking Itsuki, and Itsuki being stuck in middle), but the idea was scrapped due to the fact that Naruto was supposed to be an action anime, not a romance.
  • In the anime, Kiyomi has the same theme has Obito Uchiha, but her's has a faster beat and some notes are played one octave higher than Obito's is.
  • Kiyomi became pregnant with both Hibiki and Saki on her birthday.
  • According to the databook(s):
    • Kiyomi’s hobbies are shopping and teasing her friends and family.
    • Kiyomi's desired opponent is Sakura Haruno, though when a genin, Kiyomi wanted to see how she could do against Hinata.
    • Kiyomi’s favorite foods are dango, and nearly all types of sweets, while her least favorite are pickled plums, squid, and octopus.
    • Kiyomi has completed 62 official missions in total: 17 D-Rank, 10 C-Rank,  28 B-Rank, 7 A-Rank, 0 S-Rank.
    • Kiyomi’s favorite word is"Trust" (信頼, Shinrai)
