“The eldest daughter of the Second Village Head and Ōkamigakure’s Thunderbolt Woman is bestowed from birth with a bright future ahead of her.”
- The Annals of Ōkamigakure, by Bunko.

Homi Uchimoto (団本 ホミ, Uchimoto Homi) was a jōnin-level kunoichi who hailed from Ōkamigakure’s Uchimoto clan. During her brother's government as the Third Village Head, Homi would work tirelessly as a treasurer to reestablish her home village to its former glory, while funding some of Arata's major architectural projects.

In her later years, she worked as an Academy teacher, instructing Ōkamigakure’s future generations of shinobi.

Background[]

Homi was born as the daughter of Susumu Uchimoto and his wife, Kaminari Asakura, being the third of four children. Despite having a carefree childhood, Homi was educated to respect the values and principles of her village, being taught to always be prepared to sacrifice herself for the greater good of her home, Ōkamigakure, and its inhabitants.

Just like her mother, Homi showed that she possessed an affinity for Lightning Release Ninjutsu; during her Academy years, the younger kunoichi was trained to master her affinity by Kaminari herself. Homi was highly appreciated by her teachers and peers, being considered an intelligent, strong-spirited, and resourceful individual.

At times, as a child, Homi enjoyed putting on small puppet spectacles for her younger siblings.

Assassination missions[]

During her early ninja career years, Homi was tasked by her father, Susumu Uchimoto, the Second Village Head, to assassinate Fuwa Toshiro, a member of the Toshiro Family and an Acid Release user who put at risk the safety of Ōkamigakure by threatening to sell valuable intel regarding their village.

On the mission, the white-cream-haired kunoichi was assisted by a team of five jōnin-level shinobi, whose task was to offer backup support in case the mission did not go according to plan.

Tracking Fuwa Toshiro down had proved to be a rather difficult task initially, as the shinobi was proficient at masking each of his moves. However, one week later, Homi and her team managed to identify the route that the shinobi took; a route which led them near the Land of Fire border.

While in disguise, the kunoichi and her team decided to stop at the same inn as the one used by Fuwa to rest for a day or two, before passing the border. Posing as a member of a traveling group of bunraku performers, Homi decided to put on a show for all the travelers who were stationed for the evening at the inn, hoping that Fuwa would be interested in participating as well, thus alluring him into a trap. Homi instructed them on how to act and assigned them specific roles. As her teammates were assigned to carry on the performance, without raising any suspicion, she kept an eye on the spectators, all the while looking to identify their target - Fuwa. She was able to distinguish him from the other travelers within minutes. Moving without being seen, Homi assumed herself the image of one of the waitresses at the inn whose task was to serve the guests. From then on, her mission went according to plan, the kunoichi being able to poison Fuwa’s food and drink by using a concentrated dose of strychnine tree fruit toxin. While her team continued the show, Homi took care of Fuwa’s body by "helping" the "passed out" guest to his room, where he took his last breath.

Homi and her team returned successfully from their mission, bringing back Fuwa’s body and the scroll with the intel that he intended to sell. She also discovered that Fuwa planned to sell said intel to other recently formed villages, for his financial benefit. The kunoichi deduced that he planned to sell the scroll to Konohagakure.

Afterward, the white-cream-haired kunoichi was tasked to complete at least 20 known assassination missions; each of them revolved around former Ōkamigakure shinobi and kunoichi that compromised the safety and integrity of her village. Two of her targets were her uncle, Buretsu Uchimoto, and his wife, Daji Uzumaki, who was seven months pregnant at the time of her death; they were accused of planning a coup d’état to overthrow the Third Village Head.

Diplomatic Mission[]

Even though Homi did not follow her mother’s steps in diplomacy, despite demonstrating to be a promising individual possessing great communication skills, she was seen as eligible enough to participate in diplomatic missions.

On one occasion, Homi accompanied her father and her brother, Arata, to the Land of Whirlpools, to Uzushiogakure. There, Homi was tasked to keep a negotiation record for her father and elder brother while they set up the terms of a treaty with the Uzumaki clan. During the diplomatic meeting, Homi also met Mito Uzumaki. Her first impression of the red-haired kunoichi was favorable, as she considered the other an intelligent and highly observant individual. She also told Mito that she was impressed by her clan's resourcefulness and their sealing techniques. From then on, the two kept a private correspondence via which they shared their ideas and expectations of the new shinobi era. Homi also asked the other kunoichi to teach her some of their clan's basic Fūinjutsu, and in return, she offered to share information regarding her Lighting Release techniques.

When Mito was married to Hashirama Senju, Homi sent her congratulations to the newlywed couple, wishing them a prosperous life.

The Great Fire of Ōkamigakure and Treasurer Activity[]

When the Great Fire of Ōkamigakure occurred, Homi was tasked by her mother to coordinate the shinobi in evacuating the population to safer areas of the city. She then aided her brother, Arata, and the other Water Release users to extinguish the fire.

The incident affected Homi deeply as her father and two of her siblings died in the fire. Even though there were rumors that said that the Second Village Head was the one who set their village on fire, the white-cream-haired kunoichi stood her ground against those accusations, defending the honor of her father. In The Annals of Ōkamigakure, Bunko mentions the fact that “the Honourable Daughter was fiercer than a caged lion when the Second Village Head’s name and reputation was dragged through mire by some of his most trusted confidants and allies”.

After her brother was invested as the Third Village Head, Homi became the treasurer and worked tirelessly to restore the former glory of their village. She is the one who funded some of Arata’s major architectural projects, the Fire Monument included. During the ten-year reconstruction, Homi was put in charge of supervising the imports of prime materials to their village; she checked each transport of materials before they were sent to the construction sites. Homi also paved the diplomatic relationship between their village and the Land of Iron, their main source of iron import.
At some point in time, Homi also introduced her brother to Shōken Uchimoto, a female member of the second branch, who would later become his wife. As an aunt, she spoiled her nephews and niece rotten by fulfilling most of their wishes. The white-cream-haired kunoichi taught them Lighting Release Ninjutsu and personally trained them to pass their chūnin exams.

Academy teaching years[]

At some point, Homi retired from her activity as a treasurer and opted to become a teacher at Ōkamigakure’s Academy, where she dedicated herself to instructing the next generations of shinobi. She eventually married a member of the second branch of the Uchimoto clan and had at least one child. She died in her 60s, after almost two full decades as an Academy teacher.

Personality[]

As the daughter of the Second Village Head and his wife, Kaminari Asakura, a well-known diplomat of her time, Homi was educated to assimilate and respect the values and principles of her village, as well as to dedicate herself to the prosperity of Ōkamigakure and its inhabitants.

The kunoichi was raised to become an independent individual who lived by self-discipline and took responsibility for her actions. Thus, the white-haired woman constantly proved herself to be an ambitious and an active member of her community. She took her duties as a treasurer, respectively as an adviser, very seriously, thoroughly weighing each advantage and disadvantage of her decisions/ actions first.

In her role as an assassin, Homi proved to be a ruthless, yet smooth killer who always had the best interests of her village at heart. She had a great sense of duty and honor towards Ōkamigakure, which she proudly regarded as her home. She also possessed immense love and respect for her parents because she understood that everything that they did was for the benefit of their village. Homi had a strong child-parent bond with her father, which never faded even after his death. She was a fierce protector of her father’s reputation and honor and did not hold back to stand her ground when some of his most trusted allies tried to label him as a mass murderer.

Homi considered herself to be a patient, kind, compassionate, and big-hearted individual; these particular traits made her well-respected and loved by the younger generations of shinobi that she trained during her Academy teaching years. She never scolded her students if they did poorly on their periodical tests, yet she encouraged them to work harder to achieve success. She believed that each child was a flower that bloomed in its own peace and the teacher was the gardener that helped them flourish to their full potential, once they had figured out all their respective needs.

Whenever she addressed higher officials, she used proper honorifics to refer to them, which marked the fact that she was a polite individual.

Appearance[]

Homi was a tall, fit woman with fair skin, big blue eyes, and long white-cream hair. Each one of her pupils was surrounded by a light-colored blue circle. Her hair was parted in the middle and tied on each side of her head in two buns, kept in place with two gold kushi. Homi wore red lipstick and had the Uchimoto clan symbol painted with a light shade of red on her forehead. She wore a pair of simple, round, gold earrings that had tags attached to them. Each tag displayed the kanji for ōkami (狼, wolf). Her nails were trimmed short and were painted with red nail polish. Homi also wore red markings around her eyes. She wore a simple, red samue and a pair of setta.

As a child, Homi was surprisingly tall, outstripping even her two brothers. During her childhood up to her early teens, the kunoichi wore a simple, white jinbei and a pair of black setta.

Abilities[]

Nature Transformation[]

Having an inherent affinity for the Lightning Release-based chakra, Homi was continuously trained to master it throughout her childhood. Her main mentor was her mother, Kaminari Asakura, a proficient user in her own right. Her development was natural and by early adulthood, the kunoichi was able to use her chakra to form a lightning armour to protect herself and even to create a wave of electricity with power ranging from a small surge to shock an opponent to a powerful stream of lightning capable of ripping through solid rock. The kunoichi could generate bolts of electricity and use her body as a conductor to hit her opponents. Homi could create lightning-infused clones and hounds via her manipulation of lightning chakra. At the same time, she could emit a spare-shaped lightning bolt from her mouth, which had enough power to pierce through a rock. Homi could also attack her opponents by sending a surge of lighting through the ground and using a fusion of Water and Lightning Release technique.

Whenever necessary, she could transfer her chakra to the ones in need.

Homi is recognized and credited as the inventor of Lightning Release: Lightning Flash (照明ストロボ, Shōmei Sutorobo), a technique that allows its user to create a luminescent lightning ball that can be used for offensive attacks, but also as a supplementary jutsu. Depending on how much chakra its users concentrate in their hands to generate the lightning sphere, its diameter can vary from a few centimeters to a few meters.

When Homi used this technique, the spheres that she created could be described as being light-bluish, translucent, and having a slow rotational motion, while radiating electricity sparks. They were also easy to disperse; when used as a supplementary jutsu (i.e. to illuminate), Homi was able to absorb the lightning balls back into her hands. However, when the kunoichi used them for offensive attacks, the spheres usually exploded loudly, creating severe damage, all the while producing a liberation of heat.

Intelligence[]

During her lifetime, Homi also proved herself to be a good strategist, being able to carefully calculate every aspect of both assassination missions and her duties as a treasurer. She was able to analyze the strategies of her opponents and pick up the best strategy to incline the battle balance in her favor. As an Academy teacher, Homi was knowledgeable enough to devise special training schedules even for her most difficult students; said schedules were personalized to fulfill each student’s training needs and requirements.

Other Skills[]

As an Academy teacher, Homi was highly proficient in all forms of basic ninja skills, even though she had chosen to specialize in teaching Lightning Release Ninjutsu. She was also shown to be knowledgeable about sealing techniques, even if she had little training in them.

Bunraku[]

The kunoichi was skilled enough to set up bunraku[1] (traditional puppet theater) shows for youngsters. Her favorite play was The Tale of the Bamboo Cutter, also known as The Tale of Princess Kaguya. She usually performed as a ningyōtsukai (puppeteer) and, at times, as a tayu (chanter). She owned a specially commissioned Kaguya-hime doll gifted to her by Susumu on her fourth birthday. The doll was specially designed to resemble the original depiction of Kaguya-hime from the ancient murals[2]. Even though she originally maneuvered it by hand, ever since her early teen years, the kunoichi started to use chakra threads to move the doll. Her doll was not a ninja tool but used only for entertainment purposes. The doll is currently stored in the Uchimoto compound, in the main family house.

Legacy[]

Several decades after her death, Homi Uchimoto is still considered an important figure in the village's history. Thus, the Academy where she taught was renamed after her, honoring her love, support, and devotion to the generations that the kunoichi inspired. She is also credited as the precursor of a modern teaching and training approach known as the Homi Uchimoto method, which includes recreational activities between theory and practice. This method centers on the students and their abilities, meeting their educational needs and requirements. This approach was so successful that it was further developed and theorized by the next generations of Academy teachers.

Trivia[]

  • Her name “Homi” (ホミ) is a derivation from “Homika” (ホミカ), which is the Japanese name of the poisonous strychnine tree. Her surname “Uchimoto” (団本) means “inside the origin”. Her full name can be roughly translated as "poison inside the origin", which is a reference to her modus operandi during assassination missions.
  • Homi’s original design consisted of a high-collared, gray, and red-brown dress that reached her mid-calves, a pair of black shinobi sandals, and a gray obi tied at her middle. The symbol of her clan was imprinted on her dress. Homi’s hair was styled in two, loose braids that were tied in a big bun at the back of her head. Other than this, she displayed the same physiognomical traits and red facial markings.
  • Homi held approximately the same nickname as her mother. While Kaminari was know as the Thunderbolt Woman (落雷の女性, Rakurai no Josei), Homi was seen as Ōkamigakure’s Thunderbolt Woman (オオカミれの里の落雷女, Ōkamigakure no Sato no Rakurai On'na).
  • As an Academy teacher, Homi’s specialty was Lightning Release Ninjutsu. She also taught an optional subject of bunraku, for which a great number of students opted.
  • Homi's Lightning Release: Lightning Flash (照明ストロボ, Shōmei Sutorobo) technique is inspired by the natural phenomenon of ball lightning.
