Alcohol Release (酒遁, Shuton, Viz: Alcohol Style) is a combined nature transformation kekkei tōta, an advanced version of kekkei genkai, made up of techniques that mix fire, water and yin-based chakra to create a chemical substance, which has various purposes. The techniques of this chakra nature involve the release of alcohol-based substances under the form of liquid or vapour. The Alcohol Release techniques may have different uses in the medical field; some techniques can be used for fuel (alcohol fuel), to preserve objects or to antifreeze when used in contact with water. There are techniques that can be divided in the offensive class, due to their toxicity, which might attack the internal organs and cells when inhaled and create real damage to the opponents.

Some techniques that involve inflammable alcohol in combination with a fire-based chakra have long-range action – meaning that they create an explosion. This enables the user to cover a larger battlefield sector, as well as to use it as a diversion to escape when outnumbered. Other techniques are used with the purpose of drugging the opponents or victims; they have short-term or long-term effects which include the impairment of neurocognitive functions. They are helpful to reduce the sensory functions of the opponent and/or to sedate them.

One disadvantage of the Alcohol Release techniques is the fact that user is also affected by their toxicity and needs a long period of time to recover from the self-poisoning, until using it again.

Kohaku Tomii is the creator of this Release and the only user so far. She is still experimenting with it.
